the elements of in-between

The Elements of In-Between is a project between a writer and artist, responding to the same films through writing and illustration. The book is a collection of film reviews and poetry by Hila Shachar, and illustrations by Amy Borrell. But above all, it is a small homage to the wonder of films and the ideas they inspire in those in-between moments that are neither work nor play, but creativity.

I'm pretty excited to show you a little sample of my book with Amy, The Elements of In-Between. The book is available here in paperback, and we'll be selling the hardback version soon. You can have another peek on Amy's website.

I hope you guys like our little book, we've put a lot of love and creativity into it, and it's so nice to see a project completed.

P.S. You really have to see another sample: a preview of a romantic short film by Benjamin Millepied and Asa Mader which I wrote about for Behind Ballet. Seriously, this video is so pretty, it got me sighing.

EDIT: So sorry guys, I forgot to mention that lulu are offering 20% off with the discount code "SPRINGREAD" (capital letters) until the 31st of March. Sorry again to anyone who has already bought it without the discount, it completely slipped my mind.

Whoa this looks like a beautiful book. I love the concept behind it. When I have some money to spare, I would absolutely love to purchase it. I've always had the idea of making a book. Writing thoughts, accompanying them with illustrations or watercolor. I feel very inspired, thanks Hila!

Congrats on the book!

CONGRATS! Books are always reasons to celebrate! I hope you did something fun like take a nap or drink champagne. Considering all the work it must have taken to get this going, I bet the nap is preferable :) The book layout looks awesome and the artwork is just lovely.

Wow it's finally here. Perfect collaboration I think. I have been too long away from the computer to see this post. It looks like a good book. I am not sure whether to wait for the hard cover or not. hmmm... oh and I briefly read your post about colour association and I believe it could be called Synesthesia? I recently went to an exhibition of jewellery work by Alice Potter at Gray Street Workshop and she was telling me about her synesthesia. I think I might have to share that exhibition on my blog.

hila said...

thank you des!

Hi Sundari! I hope honours is treating you well. yes, I found out it's called Synesthesia. Yes please, do share that exhibition on your blog - I'd also like to hear more about what alice potter had to say.

Would buy the book at any price, Hila, it is marvellous. Well done to you and Amy too. It is a treasure that already I look forward to rereading. It is also a very lucky book. Placed on the glass cabinet (so as to be looked at longer) it narrowly avoided being spewed on by Olive who in gladness that we were at last home ate too many cat biscuits before promptly bringing them up. This is gross, but true, and your book it survived by a whisker. A little further to the right and it would have received a new and icky addition.
