Some Questions

Sunday, 5 December 2010

Thank you to everyone who entered the accessoreese giveaway, and thanks again to Sue for providing the beautiful rings. The winner is ... Tracey! Congrats Tracey! I'll be in touch with you soon.

The absolutely lovely Sundari from Intimate Vignettes has presented me with the "I love your blog" prize. Sundari's blog is one of my very favourites, so please do visit and leave her a kind note.

The rules of the prize are:

- do an entry with the prize
- answer the questions
- give the prize to 10 blogs

1. Why did you create the blog?

The initial idea for the blog was to create a collection of images I loved, and it has progressed and evolved rather naturally into a space where I can share my ideas about film, literature, art, fashion and other bits and pieces. I now see my blog as not simply a collection of thoughts, images and words, but also as a distinct part of my work of writing and research. I've also "met" some wonderful people along the way.

2. What kind of blogs do you follow?

I follow blogs that are intelligent, visually striking and have a strong sense of individuality. I tend to favour the personal and intimate, and I'm always drawn to a simple, but beautiful, aesthetic. I also remain loyal to blogs that make me think and feel. This means that while I do adore stylish blogs, the content is what primarily keeps me engaged. I like a good balance between style and substance. Lastly, I always stick with blogs that maintain a real relationship with their readers and actively interact with them. I think this is one of the nicest things about blogging in general, as it creates a type of community.

3. Favorite makeup brand?

SK-II and Chanel, because the quality of their products is superb, and they tend to be longer lasting than other brands I have tried. I use and buy makeup sparingly though, as most of my "spare" money is spent on books and films.

4. Favorite clothing brand?

Toast is my absolute favourite (closely followed by A.P.C.). I do wish their sizes were a bit smaller though, as I'm quite little. I adore everything about this brand as it reflects my personal style. I also particularly love their ethical policy, which includes my favourite line from a clothing brand: Our ranges always include products with a story.

5. Your indispensable makeup product?

I always have lip balm lying around. My favourite is Chanel's Soin Tendres Levres, but it's expensive and hard to find. My other favourite used to be Bourjois's Baume de Nuit. Unfortunately, it has been discontinued, which is a real shame because it practically saved my lips on long dehydrating flights to Paris, England and Israel. It also had the nicest texture.

6. Your favorite color?

My favourite shades are deep cobalt blue, soft peach and light gray.

7. Your perfume?

Coco Mademoiselle by Chanel. You have to get really close to me to smell it though, I'm not the type to bath in perfume.

8. Your favorite film?

That's such a tough one. I've spent so much of my time with films over the past few years, I don't know if I can play favourites with my screen children. If I were pushed, I'd name a few: La Double Vie de Veronique, Bright Star, Russian Ark, Sweetie, The Piano and The Red Shoes. But there are so many more.

9. What country would you like to visit and why?

The list of countries I want to visit is endless. I've travelled to various places, but the country that is at the top of my list as the next destination is Sweden, because I want to stay in the Ice Hotel and see the Northern Lights.

10. Make the last question and answer to yourself: (this is for my friend David, who asked me to post and answer this question) what's the first line of a story you wrote?

'It is seven hours difference now.'

And the 10 blogs I give the prize to:

Coffee and Pie, Belle Fleur de Lis, High up in the Trees, Elsewhere, Happiness, etc, Fieldguided, Etre Soi, Enia is (Almost) Here, Deleilan and Dores.

Image by nikolinelr, who also has a fabulous blog.

P.S. I've written a little piece here for The Australian Ballet, and I'd love to hear of any similar projects out there.

It's always nice to read more about the people we 'read'. I agree with you on the film question, it is hard. I keep meaning to write a summer film 'must watch' list but keep forgetting. I can tick off The Piano though. Beautiful... just beautiful.

Thanks for the award; I'll be sure to do a post with it in the next few days. So lovely to know more about you. Funnily, I've just got a copy of Bright Star to watch this evening and can't wait to see it again. I visited the Keats house last summer in Hampstead. You always find the loveliest images for your posts too.

I loved reading your answers in this post, and I found myself nodding in agreement to many of your responses.

I'm completely on the same wavelength as you in regards to the type of blogs you read and how lovely it is to have a little community form within a virtual space ... I think that's when blogging really comes into it's own! :)

PS. I love that most of your spare money is spent on books and movies - that sounds right to me! :D

Your blog is my absolute favorite. I have been a silent reader for a while now, but I think I will start to take your advice and share more as to be a part of the community more.

Also, I want to say that Chanel and TOAST are my favourites as well and I have been dying to try sk-ii. Which item do you prefer the most?

I relate to just about everything you say and like, so no wonder I like reading your blog! haha

Thank you for sharing your beautiful world with us!

Natalie xx

P.S. If you don't mind, I have added you to my "Everyday Adventures" links column. :)

hi natalie, of course I don't mind, thanks! I really love getting comments such as this one, it's nice to hear when someone appreciates your blog :)

I really like skii's facial treatment essence. I don't us it very often and it's very expensive, but so nice.
